One of the best movies ever made! Polanski is great director, Jack Nicholson an amazing actor and Faye Dunaway is the person who makes this movie beautiful. Great team! Thanks.

Why don't some of the user comments credit the WRITER, since this is a script database? Geeze. Robert Towne.

I agree with you Eric. Syd Field uses this great script of Robert Towne in his screenplay classes and mentioned it in his book ,"The Screenwriter's Workbook" as one of his teaching scripts because it is well written for it has a tight & lean writing. Syd Field used this script as good example when he discussed how to write Act 2 of a screenplay. He showed in his book a scene from this script where the midpoint of Act 2 is in page 63 of this script which makes the story moves forward all the way to Plot point 2 before the resolution of the story. Read this great script and I am reading it now. I will also look for it on DVD later on to study more how it was filmed from script to screen. Thank you.

Best noir film I've ever seen, but you guys should know that the script written by Towne is different then the final one, used in the movie. The difference is with the last scene and which was changed by Polanski.

Very good screenplay. Besides the Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards, it should have been recognized by winning Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. One of Polanski's best work, on my favorite list of his films including The Pianist and Frantic.

What a time, one of my favorites to make a movie in, and I love this show but, the script write and production were overshadowed by L A Confidential. Even though Russell didn't outgun Jack, Stanly Kubrick would have done a better direct than Roman who made a big mistake thinking he can script, reminiscent of lesser people, like Dennis Hopper who is only remembered for his efforts to destroy talented script writing, yet taking credit for the final cut. Stanly did at times lose himself in this same maze, but found his way out, to make better movies. If the carpenter isn't building the house you want, don't go thinking your better at sawing wood, reiterate, or get another scribbler mate.

What a incredible script. Brilliant twists and turns all the way through to the end. Just great writing. Kudos to Robert Towne for a magnificent piece of work. Truly deserves all the praise it gets in writing circles. Fantastic read.

I heard that this script is used as a tool to teach screenwriting at schools. Also won the Oscar for best original screenplay.
